To install the PECL on debian based linux distros (ubuntu, mint, kali, etc.)
Use the apitude command:
sudo apt-get install php-pear

PECL bietet eine einfache Möglichkeit, dynamische PHP-Erweiterungen zu erstellen. Verwenden Sie dafür den folgenden » PECL-Befehl:
$ pecl install extname
Mit diesem Befehl wird der Quellcode für extname heruntergeladen, kompiliert und extname.so ins Verzeichnis extension_dir installiert. extname.so kann dann über die php.ini geladen werden
Standardmäßig werden durch den Befehl pecl keine Pakete
installiert, die mit dem Status alpha oder
beta gekennzeichnet sind. Wenn keine
stable-Pakete verfügbar sind, kann mit dem folgenden
Befehl ein beta-Paket installiert werden:
$ pecl install extname-beta
Mit dieser Variante kann auch eine bestimmte Version installiert werden:
$ pecl install extname-0.1
Hinweis:
Nachdem die Erweiterung in der php.ini aktiviert wurde, muss der Webserver neu gestartet werden, damit die Änderungen übernommen werden.

To compile pecl extensions on Amazon Linux AMIs, follow the tutorial at http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/install-LAMP.html and then install these additional required packages with the following command:
[ec2-user ~]$ sudo yum install php-devel zlib-devel curl-devel gcc
You should then be able to compile pecl extensions; for example, enter the following command to compile the pecl_http extension:
[ec2-user ~]$ sudo pecl install pecl_http

to use the pecl, pear, or phpize commands in fedora, install the php-devel package:
$ yum install php-devel
